The Road to 150 Miles
The Road to 150 Miles: My Journey to Break a 50‑Year‑Old World Record
In 1976, Jesse Castenda achieved something that still echoes through the world of endurance sport. After surviving childhood paralysis and being told he would never walk again, he stepped onto a track in Albuquerque and walked 228.93 km (142.25 miles) in 24 hours. High altitude, dry air, fatigue, monotony — none of it stopped him. His record has stood untouched for nearly 50 years, a testament to resilience, belief, and sheer human will.
On 18–19 September 2026, exactly half a century later, I will attempt to surpass that milestone by walking 150 miles (241 km) in 24 hours. It’s a challenge that demands more than fitness. It demands discipline, strategy, and a mindset strong enough to carry me through the darkest hours of the attempt.
This blog is where I’ll document every step of the journey — the training, the setbacks, the breakthroughs, and the mindset work that will shape the months ahead.
Why This Challenge Matters to Me
Jesse’s story isn’t just inspiring — it’s a reminder of what’s possible when you refuse to accept limits. His recovery from paralysis shaped his belief system, and that belief carried him through one of the toughest endurance feats ever recorded.
That spirit is exactly what drives me.
This challenge isn’t just about beating a number. It’s about proving what’s possible when discipline, resilience, and self‑belief come together. It’s about pushing myself far beyond comfort and stepping into a space where growth is the only option.
The Challenges I Know I’ll Face
With less than a year until the event, the reality of what lies ahead is already clear.
Physically
I need to maintain a pace of over 6.5 miles every hour for 24 hours straight.
My body must withstand continuous impact, fatigue, and strain.
Hydration, nutrition, and pacing must be executed with precision.
Mentally
I’ll face long stretches of monotony.
Fatigue will test my focus and resolve.
I’ll need to break the distance into manageable segments, just as Jesse did.
Emotionally
There will be days when motivation dips.
Training will collide with life, responsibilities, and exhaustion.
I’ll need to trust the process, even when progress feels slow.
This challenge will test every part of me — and that’s exactly why I’m doing it.
Walking With Purpose: Supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital
This journey isn’t just personal. It’s also a chance to give back.
10% of all sponsorship, funding, and sales revenue from this challenge will be donated to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
Their work changes lives every day, supporting children and families through some of the toughest battles imaginable. If I can use this challenge to shine a light on their mission — and contribute to it — then every mile becomes even more meaningful.
Why I’m Sharing This Journey
I want this blog to be a real, honest record of what it takes to chase something extraordinary. Not just the polished moments, but the raw ones too — the early mornings, the setbacks, the breakthroughs, the doubts, and the small victories that keep me moving forward.
Here, I’ll share:
Weekly training updates
Insights into my pacing, nutrition, and strategy
The mental and emotional journey behind the scenes
Reflections on progress, pain, and purpose
The countdown to the moment I step onto the track
Your support genuinely matters. Every message, every share, every bit of encouragement fuels the journey.
The Countdown Has Begun
The record has stood for 50 years. On its anniversary, I’ll step onto the track and give everything I have to surpass it.
This is my challenge. My journey. My chance to prove what’s possible — for myself, for the FORGED Lifestyle community, and for the children and families supported by Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Thank you for walking this road with me. Let’s make history.
